I'm on the
second day of a three-day weekend which is very welcome. Over
the past few weeks, I did a three-day adventure camp with my homeroom
which was camping out on the beach about forty minutes north of
here, and my twice weekly baseball coaching. We have three more
weeks before a two week vacation which I'm really looking forward
to.
We've been
doing a lot of garden work over the past few weeks, and the front
yard looks completely different from what is was not too long
ago. Our contractor had this terrible habit of mixing cement on
the ground which meant that by the time he was done, we had a
front yard which was basically covered in 30 centimeters of concrete.
We hired two gardeners to break it all up. They did a great job,
but now we have loads of broken cement in the backyard which we
need to figure out how to dispose of.
We had a week of activities arranged around Indonesian Independence Day. Sam and Meredith didn't really do anything, but Mercedes and Rebecca were completely involved. Both of them gave speeches in English for a public gathering, and then both did several days of dancing, both traditional and modern. Both of the girls' dance groups came in first in their categories. I was impressed. I made a dvd of the whole thing, but am not sure how I can send it out to everyone.
I have a new group of photos up this week which includes scans of some old photos that I found around the house in Bali when we were there in July. Everyone here is fine, as are all the animals. The goats keep eating our little fruit trees so we've had to keep them in their pen or tied to a stake out in the backyard. I have a new article on life in Sumbawa coming out in September in a Jakarta-based tourist magazine. Not much else going on right now. Hope everyone is well.
I put a little guest book here so you can leave a message here
for us if you are having trouble reaching us by email. Thanks
for the messages in the guest book. I like hearing from you all.
